The ADN and Health Commissions held their first “From Scared to Sacred” event this past Sunday, the first of a monthly, four-part series meant to help us reflect on how the pandemic affected us and how we reframe our lives in light of our experiences. We will provide spiritual, mental health, and other reflective resources for growth and healing from fear, grief, and loss, focusing on a single theme for each gathering. Our second event will take place on Aug. 29th at 12 noon, and the theme is “joy.” Child care for those under 12 will be provided with advance reservation; the series is open to youth 12 and up. It will include a time of eating lunch together (BYO), presentations, and discussion, wrapping up at 1:15. The deadline for child care registration is Wed., Aug. 25th. Please register for the event here. Materials from the first event, focusing on the theme of fear, are listed below. For questions, please contact SueJeanne Koh at email@example.com. Subsequent dates for the series are: Sept. 26th, and Oct. 24th. On the weekend of Oct. 30/31, we will conduct worship services memorializing our experiences.
Beginning this weekend the Deacons will be collecting school supplies as part of the Project Hope Alliance (PHA) Back-To-School Program. PHA is an organization that supports local homeless children and encourages them to stay in school, with a goal of ending the cycle of homelessness. PHA is in need of the following items for the start of the new school year: backpacks, No. 2 pencils, markers, colored pencils, coloring books, lunch boxes, folders (letter size), calculators, scientific calculators, rulers and compasses/protractors. Gift cards in increments of $25 to Target, Amazon or Walmart are also needed. Bring your items to church during any worship service beginning July 10/11 or 17/18 and place them in the red wagon or you can leave items in the St. Mark Office during office hours.
