Congregational care and nurture

St. Mark Health Ministries Commission promotes wellness and health in all aspects of our lives (body, mind and spirit).  The Care Team, Parish Nurse and Parish Counselor work together to support the needs of our members in their most vulnerable of moments.

Care Team: The Care Team is comprised of dedicated volunteers who provide support to members in time of need.  They send cards, visit members in their home or hospital, prepare meals, welcome new babies, give support during medical appointments and coordinate transportation.  They provide loving presence, prayer and concrete support when emergencies or illness affect our members.  For more information contact Louise Van Buren:  louisevanburen@icloud.com.

Parish Nurse: Ann Scott, RN is a valuable source for information, education and support.  St. Mark is part of Hoag Health Community Ministries and one of nearly fifty congregations in Orange County with a Parish Nurse.  Ann coordinates CPR classes, blood pressure screenings, flu shots, lectures on health and nutrition, end-of-life issues, grief/loss and other topics. Are you worried about a health issue? Ann can be reached at parishnurse@socal.rr.com.

Ongoing events:
Blood pressure screenings-  Last Sunday of the month
Flu Shot Clinic-  each fall
CPR/ First Aid training-  each spring
Advanced Directive event- each fall
Blood Drive:  2 x per year (spring and fall)

Parish Counseling: Gretchen Weisenburger Carrillo, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), is a resource for members for support, information and education in the area of mental health and well-being.  Gretchen meets with members and visitors, providing consultation, crisis support and linkage to referrals and resources. She also coordinates trainings and supports staff as they serve parishioners with needs in the area of well-being and mental health. If you have a question about or need support with a specific individual or family situation, set up a confidential appointment  to meet by phone or in person:  parishcounselor@stmarkpresbyterian.org.

Remember: you could save a life by being CPR trained and certified!  We offer a free CPR training every spring through our collaboration with Hoag Health Ministries and we could help you find training at any time during the year.

Did you know that we have an automatic external defibrillator (AED) on-site at St. Mark? It is located outside fellowship hall and is part of the health ministries program made possible through our collaboration with Hoag Health Ministries.

Are you concerned about your blood pressure or are you looking for health resources?  Once a month we offer blood pressure screenings right after worship on Sunday.

Care Team members will pray for you and your family during times of great challenges and sorrow.  If you know someone who needs a card and prayer, contact the Care Team at louisevanburen@icloud.com.
